Now here's the kicker - when I pulled the manifold and looked in it was definitely proof that its a roller motor. I purchased a 1989 GT H0 5.0 Mustang Convertible. For further/deeper verification you could pull the cam and check if the part number is a HO grind. ![]() The E7 heads were used the remaining years of the 5.0 (H.O.) run - I believe until '95.Īnyway - bottom line is if it's the orginal EFI 5.0 from a Mustang - it's a "H.O." Firing-order should be good verification (HO firing starting with 1-3 instead of 1-5) and certainly the spyder (and roller-lifters) under the lower intake. (I am the original owner of my '86 GT.) The E7 (truck heads) were swapped in the next year ('87) along with a slightly larger TB and upper intake which brought the HP to 225. '86 was the first year for EFI, and the 5.0 is indeed a "H.O." - with its non-valve-relief flattop pistons and "high-swirl" E6 heads, they were rated with a little less HP (200) but with more torque than the ''85. 5.0s started in the Mustang in '85 with a Holley carb and were rated at 210hp.
